The road less travelled

We picked up our rental in Toronto, after some unexpected last minute milage haggling, got in the car and simply drove. We knew we were going to cross the boarder at Sarnia and that we wanted to get somewhere into mid-Michigan by nightfall. We had both agreed that the whole point of the trip was not to over-plan and so I spent a lazy half an hour watching the world go by and browsing our road map for possible campsites. It was getting late (time sometimes moves really fast on the road) and we were heading to a state park site when we spotted a campsite signpost. We followed it and followed it and followed it and it eventually took us to the town of Olivet and this lovely little site by the lake. It was completely empty and so we got the whole shoreline to ourselves. Pretty perfect for a first night’s rustic camping if you ask me!

What these pictures don’t show is the enormous amount of effort it took us to get that tent up. Word to the wise, if you are borrowing a tent, make sure you ask about how it goes up before you are running out of daylight!
