new year

Goodbye 2012.

You were always going to be a life altering kind of year but as it turned out you were not quite the one we expecting. You were full of curve balls and unexpected surprises. You were leaving one home and starting two others. You unexpectedly took us away from our new city and back to our old one but you were also a perfect adventure in the middle of all that and so, for that experience alone, you are almost forgiven.

You were finding and starting new jobs, new friends and long commutes across counties. You were endless flat searching, shock and readjustment. You were a first wedding anniversary with my most special of people.

You were two pink lines on a strip of plastic and a whole new life to contemplate. For a few more hours you are still my growing belly and the thud of tiny feet.

2012, you finally taught me the meaning of patience; whether that mean 3 years of this or 9 months of that. You taught me that home is the people you are with, not the city you are in.

Goodbye 2012. As much as we have to thank you for, you life-changing of years, I have a feeling 2013 might just pip you to the post.
